In the worlds
of business, education, entertainment, technology, and law, administration
is the method by which people attend to matters. Processing paperwork,
maintaining budgets, coordinated meetings, supervising correspondence,
and conducting research are all typical duties that might fall under
the larger umbrella of general administration, whether one is an
executive or a receptionist. Given the broad range of administration
functions, one has a lot of leeway when pursuing degrees, employment,
and salaries.
Possible
Administration Careers
If you're interested
in pursuing any of a variety of administration careers, your first
order of business is selecting an industry that interests you. If
history or research has always fascinated you, you might consider
becoming an administrative assistant at a local college or university.
Salaries for these types of jobs hover between $35,000 a year a
year according to the US Department of Labor. If law is more your
field, perhaps becoming a paralegal making almost $40,000 a year
is more appealing. And in the world of health and medicine, potential
earnings are considerably higher.
Training
for Administration Careers
Although the
exact qualifications required for each type of administration career
will vary by firm, industry, and level of expertise, a four year
degree from an accredited university will go a long way regardless
of where one wants to work. At the very least, you should acquire
basic computer experience, Internet know-how, word processing functionality,
and strong research skills. These traits are the bare minimum one
needs in order to survive in today's office environment. Thereafter,
it is usually just a matter of mastering the different terminology
germane to each industry.
